A few months ago I went on a diet, that changed my life. I finally feel confident and healthy after my time in California. Along with the diet change, I started working out and genuinely pushing myself. Most mornings, I wake up, and I go for a jog, a few miles if I have time. Three months ago, I was 205 pounds and only able to jog for about two minutes before getting tired or panting so hard I had to stop. I currently am 165 and can jog three miles before needing a break. I could not be more proud of myself. Each morning I get back home, and I am immediately astounded at what I have put my body through and what I am capable of doing now. I mentally and physically, could not do what I do now if I was still in California. The move has been an incredible change for me; I regret no-decisions.
Running has been a valuable life lesson. I have learned so many things on my long runs.
1. I have learned the importance of turning off your apps and running disconnected from the world.
2. It is crucial to have time for yourself and to take a mental break.
3. It is okay to talk to yourself on your runs; it is a great way to sort things out without getting outside opinions.
4. You are forced to learn how to breathe, and this is one of the best ways to practice mindful breathing.
5. Chafing happens to the best of us, Vaseline helps.
Running for long periods is something not everyone will enjoy, for me it’s more like a form of meditation and time for me to escape all of my problems. We all deserve a break; it’s part of maintaining a happy and healthy lifestyle.
Running is great stuff. I switched to swimming after some back problems. It has the added features of 1) no chafing and 2) no traffic to worry about. On the other hand, there is the whole “wet hair” issue, but that can be worked around.

I also have back problems, I had metal rods placed into my back, so for a while I wasn’t doing much of anything. I am not a huge fan of getting my ears or hair wet. I do know that swimming is an amazing workout. As long as you have found something that works for your lifestyle, it’s a win!

Congratulations! I feel the same way about riding my bike, and I like jogging too.

I know a lot of people view meditation as sitting completely still and not moving, however I can’t do that. Jogging is the closest I can get to feeling completely relaxed and letting the world melt away. If biking gives you that same feeling, then do it as much as your schedule allows!

The secret, I believe, is getting away from people/problems/stress whichever way suits you…

Even if it’s just for a little bit. My stress has gone way down since running. Ive also learned how to save up for vacations and every six months I’ve been traveling. As long as I get breaks I’ve noticed I’m mentally and physically more healthy than I ever have been.

It is an amazing way to get a clear head. Two years ago I never would have thought this would be my life.

Woohoo! So proud of what you’ve achieved. I’ve been working out regularly for a year now and set small milestones for myself when I first started. Now when I look back at how far I’ve come it always puts a smile on my face. Well done, and keep it up!

Thank you! Making healthy food choices made a world of a difference to my routine as well. It’s amazing how cutting down on simple things does such wonders to the body and mind.

Sadly, can’t dont do the physical activity but glad others do. Very impressed. I highly recommend nappy rash cream for the chaffing. Can you recap where you started in life and what makes you move? Cheers,H

I will have to try the cream for when I run. Vaseline has been a life saver, but on long runs it doesn’t do much for me after a few miles. As far as the racap, I guess it depends on where you think life starts. When I was born? When high school hit? College? My life has so many beginning points that have shaped pieces of who I am. There is never just one beginning when we talk about life. As far as what moves me? I am highly sensitive,it’s not just one answer, many things encourage me and move me on a daily basis. But if I had to choose, I would say the people I surround myself with motivate me to move and to be better than I was yesterday.

I understand. I guess I’ve made my “About” page really blunt yet pithy. I like a little general info? Otherwise, I am known to email and ask questions to form friendships? Cheers,H

I would love an email with specific questions. I’ll be open about almost everything, then maybe I can come up with a better about page for everyone else reading!
